Kate & Pippa Buy One in Every Colour

Everyone needs a bit of variety in their wardrobe to make life interesting, but there's a lot to be said for sticking with what you know.

Kate Winslet pretty much caused a media frenzy as she worked the red carpet at the Venice Film Festival wearing a white curve-enhancing Stella McCartney number. A couple of months down the line and she's chosen the same dress for the premiere of Carnage, but this time in vampish red.

Pippa Middleton is another girl who knows what she likes and runs with it. She's been spotted around central London wearing different versions of the same lace dress from H&M. Coming in at £25 a pop it would have been rude not to buy both!

Kate and Pippa did't make a fashion faux pas here - far from it! The different colour ways actually create very different looks, and there's no denying they both look sensational. Here's to buying one in every colour I say!

Christmas Party Time

The festive season is upon us at last! A time to eat, drink and be merry. Not wanting to break from tradition, me and the girls treated ourselves to a meal at a posh country house hotel - which we were happily still able to reach in spite of the mounds of snow around at the moment.

After weeks of looking at Christmas party dresses I actually opted to wear a metallic Henry Holland knotted top with a black skirt. The ice around is so treacherous that I even ditched the heels in favour of ballet pumps - well, it's a look good enough for Alexa Chung...

A good night was had by all, topped off with a nice glass of bubbly - so that's the eating, drinking and merriness pretty much covered. Happy Christmas!

Pick of the Party Dresses: M&S

Pick of the Party Dresses: Black and Gold

The festive season is upon us once again - and that means it's time to start planning your party wear. In a series of posts dedicated to bringing you the best of what the Great British High Street has to offer, I'll take you through all the hottest trends - all coming in at under £100.

The party looks around this Christmas are very decadent - so expect to see lots of lace, brocade, metallics, not to mention a whole lot of feathers and fringing.

A Little Black Dress is the fail safe option for this time of year - and this time around black is very much on the menu - even more so than usual, if that's possible. You only have to have seen Cheryl Cole's parade of LBD's on the X-Factor over the past few weeks to notice the dominance of the colour.

A veritable feast of delights can be found on the High Street, from maxis to minis - but I think that a '50s style prom dress makes for the perfect party dress. The cinched in waist and full skirt flatter womanly curves, or the right one can even create the illusion of an enviable hour-glass figure. Look out for black lace or gold brocade.

Fair trade off-the-shoulder prom dress with lace overlay, £96 Nomad, available from Fashion Conscience

Spotted lace prom dress, £20 George @ Asda

Elizabeth Rose dress, £95 French Connection

Gold brocade dress, £19.99 H&M

Cheryl v Dannii: The Lace Wars

Week one of the live shows and Simon told us to 'embrace the madness' - but sadly the outfits weren't the showstoppers that I had been hoping for. Both Cheryl and Dannii went for lace on the night - with Dannii wearing a white lace shift with peaked shoulders by J'Aton Couture, and Cheryl showing off those fab pins in a Daniel Vosovic asymmetric black mini dress with lace trim. I think Dannii has to be my winner this week because I like the mix of contemporary shape with traditional fabric, although I wasn't too keen on the length. Had this dress been a floor length gown it would have looked amazing - especially if the lower half of the skirt was left sheer.
