Burberry Blankets

Who'd have thought the humble plaid blanket would become the must-have trans-seasonal item of 2014? OK, so it's not quite so humble when it's by Burberry, woven from Scottish cashmere and comes monogramed with your initials - but it still makes for a good picnic blanket. Last seen on Clint Eastwood, you're now more likely to spot the likes of Cara Delevingne and Olivia Palermo sporting this style... but will you be next?

A Bum Note from Burberry?

Don't get me wrong, there were plenty of things to love about the Burberry Prorsum S/S'14 show. For starters this has to be the most star-studded FROW of London Fashion Week, but I have to hope see-through skirts worn with Bridget Jones knickers is one trend that won't take off any time soon.

Harry Styles certainly seems to have enjoyed watching Cara Delevingne strutting her stuff on the catwalk - and there's no question she looked stunning in her succession of sheer blouses and lace skirts. Having your knickers on show out on the street, on the other hand, is an entirely different matter. We're talking a whole lot more than a hint of VPL here!

Following a summer of bum-bearing denim cut-offs, we're now faced with the prospect of see-through skirts. No need for the X-Ray glasses anymore boys! Of course the catwalk is a springboard for styles to be reinterpreted for real life, so I for one predict M&S doing a roaring trade in underskirts to be worn underneath these otherwise ladylike lace pencil skirts.

Wear Your Heart On Your Sleeve

My favourite thing about the Burberry Prorsum A/W'13 collection has to be the amount of cute heart prints Christopher Bailey sent down the catwalk - providing the perfect offset to the overtly sexy PVC skirts on show. All set to be the must-have motif of the season, even Victoria Beckham has taken a break from promoting her own designs to don the burgundy version of the heart print silk shirt (£495), but at Burberry the cutesy hearts aren't just reserved for the womenswear line, oh no. It looks like Harry Styles loves his Burberry heart print shirt (£350). Who knows, maybe there's a heart on that shirt to represent every heart he's broken?!

Out on the high street they're already feeling the love, stocking their own versions of Burberry's heart print designs. I particularly like New Look's take on the shirt, (pictured centre, £17.99). The hearts are slightly smaller making it a bit less obvious you're wearing your heart on your sleeve.

Burns Night Tartan

It's the 25th January - and that means it's time to celebrate the birth of Scotland's finest poet. I'm not Scottish, nor do I have any Scottish blood in me, but I'm not one to miss out on a literary celebration - and I do love a bit of tartan.

If haggis, neeps and tatties aren't your thing then why not celebrate with a style statement? The mere prospect of a Vivienne Westwood tartan dress is enough to get me reeling around the room.

Romeo Beckham Models for Burberry

You know what they say; like father, like son - and it couldn't be more true when it comes to David and Romeo Beckham. 10 year-old Romeo is already giving his old dad a run for his money in the designer ad campaigns stakes, having landed a staring role modelling Burberry's SS/13 collection.

Burberry's Creative Director, Christopher Bailey said Romeo 'stole the show', and it's to be expected that this is only the start of things to come. Victoria has spoken openly about how Romeo has always shown an interest in fashion, helping her to choose fabric samples. He obviously has fun dressing-up, and is often been spotted in a bow tie and blazer - even in casual California.

The Biker/Trench Hybrid is Born

Can't choose between a black leather biker jacket or a classic beige trench as your spring cover-up? Well, now you don't have to!

Christopher Bailey's S/S '11 collection of biker chic has seen the reinvention of Burberry's trademark gabardine trench for the generation who want it all and can't quite decide if they're a rock rebel or a preppy princess. What's more, Burberry now offer a bespoke service so that your trench is perfectly tailored to your needs, and who other than Emma Watson was first in line to get her hands on one of these beautifully crafted coats.























If your pockets aren't deep enough to stretch to a Burberry bespoke you'll be relieved to know that Topshop have a version of Emma's leather sleeved trench for £135.

The Most Stylish Woman of 2010?

It's official - Glamour.com readers have voted Emma Watson as their most stylish Brit, leaving Victoria Beckham in second place - in an illustrious top 10 that included Kate Moss, Sienna Miller and Cheryl Cole. There's no doubt that Emma's got her red carpet look nailed. Whenever she makes a public appearance she has got a stunning dress fit for the occasion. Christopher Bailey can be credited with transforming the schoolgirl swat of the Harry Potter films in to the style icon we see today, thanks to her casting as the face of Burberry. Plus she has recently upped her style stakes further by going for a Carey Mulligan-style elfin crop.

However, it is her off-duty sense of style I'm not so sure about. She hit all the right notes at Glastonbury this Summer - when she was papped in a Louis Vuitton corset and the obligotory denim cut-offs. Yet at other times she's been spotted in a less than flattering combo of Ugg boots and tracky bottoms. Although she wouldn't top my list, she is definately one to watch.

LFW Highlights: Tuesday 21st September

I've just watched the live stream of the Burberry Prorsum show - here are some of my favourite looks...













































There were lots of famous faces to spot in the crowd watching Christopher Bailey's biker inspired collection for S/S; SJP, Serena Williams, Alexa Chung, Andy Murray, Cat Deeley and, of course, Anna Wintour were just some of the names in a star-studded front row.

The highlight of the show was Bailey's reinvention of Burberry's classic trench, achieved by incorporating biker jacket detailing such as quilted leather sleeves and studded spikes. All the looks were accented with a pop of colour from bags and belts in mint, lime, acqua or lemon.

The latter half of the show heavily featured python printed on more belts, biker jackets etc. which wasn't to my personal taste - being totally freaked out by snakes! Also, a number of the models looked in pain as they struggled to walk the catwalk. One poor girl even fell over, suggesting that there was some problem with the footwear - who ever said modelling was easy!?

This didn't detract from the fact that Bailey has triumphed again. As chief creative director he has managed to breathe new life into Burberry. The 146 year old company experienced crippling losses after chavs and football hooligans adopted the brand's signature Nova check as their badge of honour. Ever since Burberry have gone to pains to redefine their image by associating themselves with young British acting and musical talent, signing up the likes of Emma Watson and George Craig to front their campaigns. Now, with each successive collection Burberry goes from strength to strength. Plus, thanks to some genius marketing the jackets and bags went on sale straight after the catwalk show had finished. So, Burberry may have just redefined Fashion Week too.

The Return of the Sloane Ranger

Since finding a couple of gems in a local charity shop I've found a new love for Sloane Ranger style. The look may have peaked over two decades ago (and gained negative associations with Hooray Henry's who have more money than sense since then), but the reign of the Sloane Ranger is far from over. Epitomised by the '80s wardrobes of archetypical Sloanes, Diana and Fergie, the ideology continues today with neo-Sloanes like Kate Middleton working a very British upper-class look. They adorn themselves in traditional British lables without appearing too showy - so it's not usually the sort of look to achieve on a budget - but I managed to find a Burberry purse for £3.50 and an Aquascutum blazer for £10!

Winter Warmers

When the days are dark and cold you just want to wrap-up warm in a luxurious Winter coat, but choosing the right one can be difficult. The last thing anyone wants to do is spend an amount which could have purchased a small car on what you have convinced yourself is an investment piece (it'll work out as 10p per wear if I wear it every Winter for the next 20 years) only to be sick of the sight of it come November still faced with months of gloom ahead.

The 3/4 length camel overcoat from Chloe's A/W 10 collection is the perfect example of a coat that will last you a lifetime. Its classic cut and colour immediately set the wearer apart with an air of sophistication - being that you are statueque enough to wear it.

If you want someting very 2010, Chanel have a Winter range full of fur-trimmed items to choose from. The models striding down the glacier-inspired catwalk had little chance of catching cold. But it is Burberry who have set my pulse racing with what I think will become the must have item for A/W 10 - the sheepskin aviator jacket.
