NTAs

Let's face it, the National Television Awards is hardly renowned for the sartorial elegance of soap stars on the red carpet. Television's most glamorous night of the year rather inevitably calls for an endless parade of rhinestone covered creations with plunging necklines - and on the whole this year's event was no different. Take Alesha Dixon's dress (pictured left) as an example of what can only be described as a wardrobe malfunction waiting to happen!

However, two ladies who have made me eat my words are Emmerdale's Sammy Winward and Hollyoaks newcomer Karen Hassan. They worked bright jewel tones to tremendous effect, whilst the caped shoulder detailing added a (greatly needed) demure touch of style to proceedings.

The main point of interest on the night had to be Cheryl Cole's huge new tattoo, which was an incredible 11 hours in the making. You couldn't fail to notice the ethereal butterfly design - artfully displayed as it was by the strappy Versace LBD sported by Ms. Cole.

People's Choice Awards

After a period of excess the new year can be a miserable time when most of us try to cut back and attempt to stick to our unachievable resolutions. But for the stars it just means the next round of parties, as the new year means one thing - award ceremonies.

The awards season kicked-off in style this week with the People's Choice Awards in L.A. - where Katy Perry was quite literally the star who shone the brightest. She accepted awards for Favourite Female Artist and Favourite Online Sensation in a Betsy Johnson prom dress illuminated by thousands of tiny neon lights. A world without Christmas lights can be a depressing place, so it's good to know that we can always rely on Ms Perry to add some sparkle to the January gloom.

Cat Deeley wore an altogether more demure prom dress for the occasion, but still managed to make an impact on the style spotters. The trend for ladylike silhouettes is set to continue well into 2011.

Not Forgetting the Beckham Boys...

No sooner have I announced Victoria as the most stylish woman of the year than another poll crops up - this time extolling the virtues of the Beckham boys. David Beckham is certainly no stranger to the style pages, but this time it is his eight-year-old son Romeo who is grabbing all the headlines as he is named as GQ's 26th most fashionable male - hot on the heels of his dad who makes it to 16th place.

The feature describes the Beckham's middle son as being: 'frighteningly tuned-in' - which is only to be expected with parents like his. But whereas Brooklyn and Cruz are happy in their L.A. beachwear, Romeo is more comfortable in a suit and bow tie.
